Welcome to Monet Class

Born on November 14th 1840 in Paris, Claude-Oscar Monet became a leading member of the ‘Impressionist’ group of painters. Monet struggled for many years to support himself and his family financially, his father did not approve of his work and wanted his son to go into business. Despite his struggles, Monet continued to pursue his ambition.  An exhibition in 1874 proved to be revolutionary for Monet and other artists alike. One of his pieces entitled ‘Impression, Sunrise’ went on display. Whilst some critics slated his work saying it was an ‘impression’ of true artistic skill, others found beauty and wanted more.  The title of his painting was adopted as the title used to describe those with a similar style as ‘Impressionists’.
